The Lost Art of Individuality

The Lost Art of Individuality

Don't you know yet? It is your light that lights the worlds.

What is so great about the subject of individuality, apart from it being one of the most important distinctions between you and everyone else – is that I could literally start writing on this subject from every angle imaginable. That is truly fascinating, but not surprising, as the subject allows for all the creativity you can detect, call upon and express – all at the same time, my friend. Not that you would start all of it at the same time, but you could start literally everywhere, and that would be just right.

Even the opening statement like the one above gives you a glimpse of the significance of having individual gifts, thought processes, questioning and reasoning – because when all of these are guided from within, the expansion we came here to realise is the most uplifting concept fathomable. And you are at the centre of it – with your individual potential, which is limitless, but guided by your passions, dreams and gifts you are aware of (and perhaps some that you only have the hunch about).

What a brilliant, awe inspiring vision by our creator!

The Conundrum Called Today

Unfortunately, the messages received from pretty much everywhere, and from as early as we entered the education system – have trained us to be less of who we are by nature (genuinely curious and solution seeking and resourceful), and more of ‘follow this way’ (herd mentality). The comments I have received from teachers from early school to university (with the exception of one university, but that subject will be covered in another post) - at almost every point where I applied and expressed my own thinking – would be enough to make most people conform. And most do, which is the saddest part.

Obviously, this method of teaching didn’t work on me and I rebelled in all sorts of ways. To the point that everything that’s called a system is not my cup of tea. And, to balance that – everything that is called creation, imagination, freedom, art and living – is. None of those would be what they are, nor would they hold any meaning for me, if my wings were clipped and if I was made to conform. Luckily, my family highly values and recognises all individuality, and I am grateful to have preserved myself (I am referring to all of who I am) as the unique and unrepeatable being.

Back when I was a teenager I wondered so much why can’t I fit in any ‘group’ of people. Please understand, I wasn’t outcast by anyone – but something inside me didn’t feel the belonging others so clearly demonstrated that they identified with this or that group. To me, there was always something short and missing there, even when I totally aligned with that particular thinking, or style, or taste (whatever it was) - I always knew there was more - more that I could bring; more of me that couldn’t fit within the limiting identification that everyone else seemed to be OK with; and just more, deeper and further than anyone was willing or interested to go, explore and reach for.

Where Are You Hiding All of Who You Are?

Knowing that you are different, and accepting it, are two different things. Now, imagine knowing that everyone, every single person born into this world, is different - and not only respecting everyone for it, but expecting everyone to feel and be free enough to express this, without ever having to worry about how they are perceived. Because we do not exist in the perception of anyone, or at least we shouldn’t. Instead of being this natural expression of the creator through our dimension – we have created another perception, this time in our own mind, because we think that we are what we think other people think we are– and, as someone really smart said – we live in this perception of a perception of reality.

Yes, I know, my friend. We have made it way too complicated. Our nature is complex, diverse and beautiful, but complicated it is not. The brilliance of creation is wrapped in mystery, and perhaps that is so that we can focus on the part we get to play on the leading edge of all creation, by perfecting ourselves through this wonderful lens that we all have inside us. While it is brilliant to be receiving messages and learning from everyone who resonates with us, as these people are our teachers – it is not necessary to identify with their thought processes, irrelevant how accurate they are.

Follow Your Bliss – Not Anyone Else’s

New ideas, new creation, innovation, and progress – they are all in the hands and minds of those who can navigate through information, select the part that is relevant (and takes their own thought forward), but then go step further from that and, by bringing the best inside them available to them in that moment – take it to a new level. Only the different can take it beyond where it has been already!

The above applies to everything in life (from parenting to museum curating) – this world needs your individuality. And please, when I say ‘this world’ I do not mean any applied systems that clearly aren’t working for the true benefit of humanity (but are dragging the name of human through some thick mud). To me, when I say ‘this world’ I truly mean the biggest picture you can imagine. And that, my friend, requires the best in you, and all of you – playing the game of life.

Don’t sacrifice your individuality to anything. Instead, protect it with all your might. Fine tune into who you really are, and never ever stop that process of learning, growing and expanding, because with you – the universe is going places where no other soul can take it.
