Many talk about it, some are not scared to dream about it, but very few set of on an adventure of living it. Yet, the dream home should be non-negotiable fact of life for everyone. And it’s not necessary to acquire a mansion before you start building the dream and enjoying the full spectrum of life’s richest offerings. Even if you don’t believe that the universe is abundant, then at least you will have to agree that it is within your power to change your mindset.

That said, creating one’s dream home is a process, as long as you wish that process to be. Personally, I don’t see any current level of achievement as the full realisation of all of the potential to create, so to me the process of perfecting is endless and joyous - for it is the same process of becoming the best version of myself, each and every day. That is the mindset of a powerful and conscious creator, someone who is not accepting limitations or impossibility in any shape or form.

Though we will still be evolving into better versions of ourselves, we can be open in this moment to fully expressing who we are and giving all that we have to creating the life we desire. So much of the role our homes play in the overall story of our life is overlooked. My aim is to bring your awareness to the definite possibility to change the story into a more powerful one, with clear vision for tomorrow.

The Background (i.e. It Wasn’t Always Like That)

Many of us will at some point in our lives live in a small space, where it might seem a tiny bit awkward to fit in a larger than life dream. One such dream for me was having a library of my own, some day. Books and reading have played a significant role my entire life, and the collection of beloved books was dreaming with me of having a space where they belong together, all of them and me. They have been through a challenging move with me and I have promised myself that one day (maybe not in this home, because it really is tiny) I will make them a library.

So, we lived, side by side – my books in long, towering piles on the floor, which only looked good in photos, but were so impractical to live with. I was living in a phase of waiting for one day, until a realisation that I may have to stay in this place for two-three more years before I am able to move forward. I thought to myself: There is no guarantee for any of us that tomorrow we’ll be here. We are meant to live our full life in this moment! Surely, the circumstances aren’t always ideal, but I can still create a dream space around me. I can put my stamp on it, I can make it an inspiring, comfortable home – rather than living day to day thinking that any day now I will be able to move, and then I will start creating my dream.

Funny and Amazing Unfolding

As it happens so often in life, once I changed my thinking, everything started making more sense. I wasn’t going to make a large investment, because I intend to leave this behind when I do move to a new home. I did my research and Ikea came up with the answer for a modular bookshelf system that gave me flexibility with the layout. And the bookcases are white, which makes them a perfect backdrop – for the books, many of which are antique, and for the rest of the room’s design.

There isn’t anyone who walked into this tiny home of mine who didn’t say Wow! when they entered into this room. I knew this was just the start. I have, since moving here, redesigned the bedroom, the kitchen, the hallway, the living room (twice), the bathroom, and the garden. Basically, everything!

My Dream Library

The library wall project was one of those bank holiday weekends and I am enormously grateful to have had the help of my son in buying, transporting, assembling, patiently fitting and rearranging the furniture layout. The book cases not only are the keeper of my books, they are the design statement all in its own right. I’m also grateful to my daughter who, on her one and a half day visit from the university, gave me a hand with colour coding the books. We had such joy and fun creating this space into what it became.

Its meaning goes far beyond the aesthetics of the interior design, though. This space brings out the best in us, and we in turn bring our best selves into the world. That is the priceless bit in the big picture of life. The power our home has to drive us forward. I’m so happy I made this decision, and I am happy I will leave it behind to make the owners happy, too. For I know there will always be a library where I am going, as I intend to keep building them wherever I am.

I hope you have enjoyed the story, and now I will leave you with the photos to illustrate what words could not convey.
