The Story of Mariana

I am sure that this does not come to you as a surprise, but each piece of furniture in Indigo & Verdigris’ interiors has a story to tell. Mariana is no exception, as she was a gift from a dear friend whose name she was given.

The elegance of her shape and the demand for popular glass display cabinet design determined that she will easily fill those shoes of ‘collectors’ favourite’.

This is no story of many words, but of beauty and grace. She was selected for the combination of Laura Ashley’s Summer Palace (classic blue & white wallpaper) and a custom mixed blend of Annie Sloan’s finest chalk paints in Graphite and Napoleonic Blue. I wanted a classy navy that is not too blue, but muted with graphite for that sophisticated, moody look. She is just a perfect shade of dark blue.

Mariana was hand waxed with two clear coats of finishing wax, and buffed to a perfect subtle, yet distinct sheen, which is so much more graceful for her age and stature than say a glossy varnish would be. And she featured in so many of Indigo & Verdigris' promotional graphics, although as an 'all star' she did not feature in any of the new release collections. 

And you’re probably thinking all of the above is what made her a star. Not quite, my friend. The above is merely the overture, as once she was re-designed to fit into 21 century she became photographed and loved by many. She is probably the most photogenic, as several of her photos have turned viral on Pinterest. It’s as if she became Audrey. Designing her look was as much fun as watching her come alive afterwards. I think it’s the natural elegance of her lines, coupled with the appealing styling that proved to be the right measure for balance between classic and contemporary.

I am going to let her take centre stage here, as she wants to greet you with her own beauty and charisma.
