Creating - That's Written On Your Soul
Art Monday Series
Post 12
We have talked about the inspiration two days ago, and today that conversation wants to carry on into inspiration’s big sister: the creation. We are all called to create, my friend. We create our realities (whether we realise it or not), we create relationships, and we create art – from and in our life.
I would invite you to forget for a moment what some school teacher may have told you about your lack of talent – and embrace what your soul is doing cartwheels about. Because that thing that makes you jump in the air with excitement, that thing that elates your being – that passion that stirs your soul – that is pure art. Life and art cannot be separated. Both are continuous, unstoppable creating – forever moving us up and forward.
If there is no passion in your soul powerful as the words above describe, you will find it beyond the surface, through the layers of beliefs that are not serving you and not making you happy in this moment. All of those things in the way of your powerful desire to express yourself creatively, are not making you happy. And the opposite is also true, when your soul is singing with joy you will see evidence of your creativity: in the way something you cook tastes, in the way you arrange your washing on the line, in the way you move through traffic with ease of a virtuoso, in the way you pull off an outfit out of unlikely components…. When you are in concert with your inner being – you are creating art! When you are not there – you are making yourself (and those around you) miserable.
The shortest and the most direct way (though it may seem the scariest) to your true art – is through your heart and soul. I have somewhat of a gift when it comes to helping people reconnect with their lost art of creativity. Ten years ago I ran a voluntary art class. People attended because they were curious. I started by painting a mural (I was invited to do that by the person who ran the centre) of the delicate plum blossom across the wall. Of course, that aroused interest and each week the number of students in my class grew. From: ‘Would it be fine just to sit with you and observe, as I don’t know how to draw a straight line’ to those brave enough to try again something they loved when they were children – but one by one, they all felt they wanted to join in.
The creative energy did its trick. Some people sat and read us poetry, some sang the songs they composed themselves, some played instruments, some encouraged others, and some started to draw, paint, experiment with different forms of art. Not one person sitting there around my round table was not creative in their own way. They found it so easily when they just surrendered to the desire to be there, to attend, to show up, to get involved, to try, to enjoy, to live, to create….
Not long after we created competitions, exhibitions and went out together. Every day we discovered new things we had in common, and the better versions of us showed up in conversations. We shared what words alone can’t share. Our art connected us, our souls felt oneness.
After nearly two years of doing it, my corporate job sadly took me away from running this class, but the friendships and relationships of love, respect and humble gratitude stayed with me forever. I have helped many people in my life reconnect with parts of themselves that they have buried, forgotten and left behind - or I helped some other people reach parts of them they never even knew they had. Moving, real experiences.
Two Ways I Can Help You Reconnect With Your Creativity
I have a small, but precious community called Art & Soul Society on Facebook (it’s a free group and it’s private, our conversations are sacred – if you want you are welcome to join us by clicking here). Surprise yourself by looking deeper into your creative side. Start learning today. No better day for it. No better day to start blossoming.
I also run an Art & Soul Retreat – that’s an exclusive, by appointment and invitation only - one on one immersion deep into the soul, and art is the portal through which we get there. Intrigued to hear more? Send me a message, and I will be happy to give you more details – just be sure you are serious about wanting to be the best version of yourself.
I mean, if you are going to create something, you might as well start with creating happiness, in and around you. I would be honoured to assist you.
* * * * The Update – 358 Days to Dream * * * *
1.
The measurements have all been taken, noted down – on track to start drawing the scale plan of the space. Very excited about that, as well as all the support and excitement it has caused with my children and my family. Everyone is fully on board. I never doubted they would be – but to have the confirmation and full on conversations about all the details of my plan is great. If you had a chance to see Saturday’s style post here on the blog – you will also see how the vision is slowly, but surely taking shape in my mind. Also, another friend has joined our 365 Days to Dream journey. She is an artist and I can tell you exclusively that she will be sharing a post right on this platform, as she has agreed to be our guest artist, so look for that soon, my friend. You are going to love Adriana, she is both a gifted artist and a kind human spirit.
Another thing to add here, I have officially kicked off the 365 Catalogue – on Instagram (join and follow @indigoandverdigris), and if you haven’t yet, then I invite you to hear all about it in yesterday’s episode of This is Your Moment podcast – which announces this aspect of the project in some detail. If you have any questions, feel free to send them my way, please, and I will be happy to get back to you.
2.
Feeling grateful for the creative energy, and for each and every 15 hours of creative work day! It doesn’t feel like work, but like a continuous swaying motion; my soul is smiling, and my face is responding with a smile, too. Every part of it is a blessing and I can’t tell you what I am enjoying the most. But it has to be the feeling of presence in each moment. That has been a constant since starting this journey. Setting intentions of more things like it. Focusing firmly on everything ‘in the moment’ and on positive intentions, desires and outcomes.
3.
More of the same tomorrow. Getting into swing with updates of the catalogue. A lot of work goes into sifting through, taking photographs and then cataloguing the items. It’s all fun, but it is time consuming. I am sure it will pick up as I go along. Action plan for this week is to produce the scale plan by the end of it.
Remember – You Are Safe Here
This is the sacred place between our souls. Thank you for sharing your visions, dreams and ideas. Your courage to be vulnerably seen will always be respected, and you will be treated with nothing but kindness and compassion. ♡
